Central Oregon
No
two ways about it - Central Oregon is a magnificent place to live. Snow-capped
peaks pierce the brilliant blue skies, sparkling rivers tumble through
the high desert landscape, and stately ponderosas fill the forests with
a sweet, pungent smell.
Outdoor
enthusiasts revel in the array of recreational activities. You can schuss
down the slopes of Mt. Bachelor, kayak down white-water rapids, mountain
bike through pine forest groves, or tee up on dozens of rolling 18-hole
courses. A scenic drive on the Cascade Lakes Highway takes you to a multitude
of trailheads for camping, fishing, or day-long expeditions complete with
jaw-dropping vistas and fresh mountain air. You can also visit Smith Rock,
famous for its world-class rock climbing and gorgeous hikes. Lake Billy
Chinook is a summertime favorite for boating, swimming, and waterskiing.
Bend
Combining
small-town charm with urban sophistication, Bend has evolved into the
ultimate destination. Now at a population of 56,000, the town draws outdoor
recreators, entrepreneurs, families looking for a kid-friendly environment,
and retirees who want to spend their golden years on the sunny side of
the Cascades.
Swank boutiques, gourmet restaurants, and lively bars keep the historic
downtown hopping. Just steps away, Drake Park, the "jewel" of
Bend, hosts music festivals and special events throughout the year, such
as the Cascade Festival of Music
and summertime's weekly favorite, Munch n' Music. For other exciting activities
be sure to visit The Shops at the Old
Mill District, where you'll find shopping, dining, movies, and events
all by the river, including this year's US
Bank Pole Pedal Paddle.
